Water Spray Absorption Tower

The water spray absorption tower is designed to effectively treat organic exhaust gases using a dedicated scrubbing solution. It is suitable for removing pollutants such as benzene compounds, alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, esters, and other volatile contaminants.

Polluted gas enters the tower from the side and passes through a fine mist of atomized liquid. During this stage, dust and adhesive particles are captured and settle into the liquid phase. The gas stream then passes through a filtration section, where residual moisture and suspended particles are removed before clean air is discharged from the top of the tower.

Collected particles are separated within the system:

  • Heavier particles settle into the collection tank
  • Suspended matter is discharged through the overflow outlet
  • Sediment is removed via the drain system

Chemical additives within the scrubbing liquid react with organic pollutants, enabling further decomposition and effective odor removal.

Process Principle

Inside the tower, gas flow is driven upward by a fan, while the absorption liquid is pumped to the top and distributed evenly downward.

This creates a countercurrent absorption process, maximizing contact between gas and liquid phases and ensuring efficient mass transfer.

After treatment, the gas passes through a demisting section to remove residual moisture before being discharged through the chimney.

Different absorption liquids can be applied depending on the type of gas:

Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution

  • Hydrochloric acid mist removal efficiency: up to 98%
  • Sulfuric acid mist removal efficiency: up to 97%
  • Nitric acid mist removal efficiency: above 90%

Sodium hypochlorite (NaClO) solution

  • Cyanide-containing gas removal efficiency: above 95%

System Design

The absorption tower is typically constructed using FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic) and consists of:

  • Upper tower body
  • Cylindrical section
  • Circulating liquid tank

The internal structure includes two layers of packing:

  • Inclined corrugated plates
  • Step rings

This configuration provides a large gas–liquid contact area, ensuring high absorption efficiency.

The tower features an optimized aerodynamic design for stable airflow and low resistance. The outer surface is coated with UV-resistant gel, providing excellent durability, corrosion resistance, and long service life.

Depending on operational requirements, the system can be equipped with:

  • Overflow and drainage systems
  • Automatic water supply lines
  • Integrated circulation without the need for an external cooling tank

A noise-reduction pad is installed at the top section to minimize operational noise.
